well, one door closes and another opens! ~~~~~I noticed that the crown is now advertsing a new restaurant and beer garden. has anyone tried it? also, it looks like the G & A are now advertising a new menu.

What a pity that the Crown looks so shabby on the outside (I've not been inside). Doesn't exactly encourage new people to try it (that and the smelly dogs on the roof...)

I totally agree. It looks a mess and I would feel bad recommending guests to go there. In fact I feel a bit intimidated by the place, I think it reminds me of a pub near my daughter's place in Derby that has a terrible reputation for drugs, with its peeling paint, broken windows and large dogs! I'm sure it's OK but appearances are important if you are inviting people in. Maybe they are doing it up slowly and have started on the restaurant and function room, which I understand is looking good now.

I had a meal there last week. The hall is spacious and the food was not too bad. Steak dinner with a glass of wine is £8. I agree about the outside perception of it being intimadating.

I like the idea of all these pubs reopening in Crowland and an open pub is a far more encouraging site than one boarded up (like the George & Angel some months ago). Unfortunately a pub is only as good as the last pint or meal it served and if they don't provide what the customer wants then they're not likely to survive. I'd agree that the Crown looks a bit shabby from the outside and I'm sure things will improve eventually but pubs have to go that extra mile nowadays to connect with their customers. The days of a pub being open and the landlord expecting customers to fall over themselves to get in the door are long gone. If anyone would like to keep an eye on the pubs in and around Crowland we'd appreciate a 'pub spy' to keep us up to date on our website www.peterboroughpubs.co.uk

Crumbs at this rate the Carps and the Weatsheaf may even reopen.

Which may come as a surprise to the people who now live there!

I went in there for a swift pint when I was checking Crowland out. It seems like an ok pub to me. If it supplies beer then I'm there
