Saint Guthlac School´s Got Talent
I haven´t set foot in a secondary school, never mind been to one of their prize-giving and award evenings, since maps of the world were mostly coloured pink and the Beatles (that very popular beat combo of the 1960s) were headlines in racey mags like TitBits. Given these credentials and motivated not by the best experience of my own secondary education, I thought this was going to be a rather dull occasion - how wrong I was. It was a great pleasure to attend the school´s presentation of prizes and commendation certificates on Tuesday evening, 24th November. The evening was a delight. My thanks to my hosts, head teacher Joanna Fletcher, the Chair of Governers, Chris Penney, staff and teachers at the school - and of course the students and ex-students themselves, without whom the whole thing would have been quite pointless. How things have changed since my own school days. The evening was informal and relaxed with the clear indication that people had come to enjoy themsleves and to take extreme delight in their achievements - staff, parents and students.
Presenting the awards and certificates was Craig Mackail-Smith, Peterborough United´s young striker, who was excellent in his summing up - that it was opportunity to achieve and to do well at school which gives an excellent foundation in life and to future achievement. However, it did appear that some of the staff were more smitten with Craig than the students - no doubt a few autographs are at this moment being framed and hung on one or two Posh supporters´ walls. Congratulations students and staff of St Guthlac School Crowland, you have good reason to be proud of your achievements. Go to the Saint Guthlac School Website for more information. |

One of the highlights of the evening, and there were a few, was the musical presentation by Saint Guthlac Year 10 student Mark Crawford who accompanied himself on acoustic guitar singing with strength and confidence - Mark can be seen on "Britain's Got Talent," but on this occasion it was certainly St Guthlac School Crowland that showed its talent.
