A1073 updates: Moulton Chapel and Newborough Road to re-open
As creation of a new A1073 moves on apace, contractors are pleased to announce that Moulton Chapel Road can be reopened to single lane traffic from 30 September.
The road is currently closed for complex drainage works and associated tasks, which are expected to be completed around mid-November. However, a stage has been reached which allows the area to be safely re-opened under two-way traffic lights.
As Moulton Chapel Road reopens it will then be necessary to close Mill Drove on 1 October for a period of one month. This will allow the full depth reconstruction of the existing carriageway where it joins the A1073 scheme works. The signed diversion route will be Stonegate, A1073 Barrier Bank, A16, Low Road, Rangell Gate, Fulney Drove onto Mill Drove and vice versa.
Works on the A47 are continuing to progress well, and move towards Phase 4 of the construction. The current road closure on Newborough Road should be lifted a week early on 5 October to coincide with the traffic switch on the A47. At this point, traffic will run on one lane, eastbound and westbound, of the newly created dual carriageway between Junction 20, A15 and the new roundabout under construction on the A47.
The road closure currently in place on the B1040, Thorney Road, is due to finish on 13 October. Towards the end of October, a closure of up to six weeks will be necessary on the B1173 Barrier Bank, Spalding, to allow the full depth reconstruction of the existing carriageway where it joins the A1073 scheme works.
The brand new, 22km route between Spalding and Eye is progressing ahead of schedule overall, leading to an earlier completion time of summer 2010 being announced.
