Two of the Sparrows have returned, they must have taken a holiday!
We must be lucky as the Goldfinches seem to visit us each day, only the number varies. Some days as many as fourteen, they seem to be going round the different shrubs and trees in the garden. We do tend to leave seed heads on all the trees, shrubs and annual plants until the spring as an extra source of food for seed eaters. Makes for a lot more work in the Spring but worthwhile for the birds we see as a result.

Good news Pensioner

In the space of about 15 minutes this morning we had visit a fat feeder on a tree, among other trees, a pair of Greenfinches, a Goldfinch, a pair of Lond-Tail Tits along with Great Tits and Chiffinches - wow!

I've never seen such a variety in a short space of time. I see also the local blackbirds are learning how to feed off the ground too.

Very nice too.
We've had our usual group of Blackbirds, Sparrows, Dunnocks, Goldfinches, Starlings, Robins, Chaffinches Wrens, Rooks and Jackdaws. Plus a variety of Tits. Not wishing to brag of course! lol.
My wife had made up a few fat balls which seemed to attract more than the usual amount of birds.
We always seem to have a large number of Collared Doves as many as fourteen some days sitting waiting to be fed. If we are just a bit slow in putting the food out for them they sit on the roof of the bird table near the kitchen window and stare at us.
On Friday morning the Green Woodpecker was digging holes in the lawn, which was nice to watch. We had heard it around for a few days but hadn't seen it until then.
I am amazed at the cheek of some of the birds as they do seem to demand to be fed.
Although we get a wide variety of birds in the garden, we have a very long way to go before we can log up the different types we had in our garden back in Sutton Coldfield. We had over fifty types visit us over the course of the eleven years we were logging them down. The strangest was a pair of Mallards that came down the little narrow brook we had at the bottom of the garden.

I purchased a bag of RSPB bird seed for my feeders and the birds have totally shunned them.

When I fill the feeders with Vine Farm seed they eat me out of house and home!

I can't believe they are so fussy.

Now I know we've had a damp lawn. Two ducks came by the other day to see what was on special offer...

Spotted in our garden taking a refreshing dip in our pond (at the shallow end) were a pair of Linnets.

At first sight you might think you'd just spotted a pair of female Chaffinches but the flight and behavior is different - the male had a pink blush on its breast and a dark cap, and the plumage is overall a much lighter brown with a white wing bar.

I saw them last year, but really nice to see them back this year.

A reed bunting has been visiting our feeding station of late.
Starlings, collared doves and wood pidgeon abound.
We regularly see blackbirds and groups of goldfinches and sparrows, occasionally greenfinches and chaffinches and very occasionally dunnock, great tits and blue tits.
Aren't they all a delight?
